Woodstock

Woodstock is a New Brunswick town situated on the west bank of the Saint John River at the mouth of the Meduxnekeag River.

 

The Woodstock First Nations band government office is located here.

 

The area has a history of iron working and mining. In 1820 rock containing iron was found in the area. Then in 1826  low-grade iron ore and then in 1848 they mined some iron-manganese deposits which lasted until 1884. Besides iron, zinc, copper and lead have also been mined there and Surassite was found in the Strategic Manganese Mine.

 

Volcanic debris including obsidian were found in the area.
